ICHF Events has joined forces with the UK Hand Knitting (UKHKA) to bring back a much-loved knitting competition. The Nation’s Fastest Knitter will launch at the Stitching, Sewing & Hobbycrafts Show taking place in Manchester from 2nd to 4th February 2017 and continue its tour with heats at Sewing For Pleasure and Fashion & Embroidery with Hobbycrafts at the NEC Birmingham in March and the Stitching, Sewing & Hobbycrafts Show at ExCeL London in April. The UKHKA will also be running regional heats online.
Simon Burns, Managing Director at ICHF Events said: “Many of our craft loving visitors are avid knitters and we are very excited to be working with the UK Hand Knitting to re-launch a search to find the Nation’s Fastest Knitter. We are also delighted to support the charity Knit For Peace, with all resulting knitting from the competition to be donated to their projects.”
The competition will take place at the UK Hand Knitting stand at the Manchester, Birmingham and London shows where representatives of the Association will be on hand to adjudicate with stop watches at the ready. Those taking part must knit 100 stitches as quickly as they can. Their result will be recorded by UKHKA volunteers with the fastest knitter from each of the three shows going through to the grand final taking place at the Stitching, Sewing & Hobbycrafts Show in London.
Russell Morris, Chairman of UK Hand Knitting said: “Knitting has many benefits, supporting well being and dexterity as well as providing a fun and useful hobby that can be very sociable. We know our members love to improve their skills and stitching speed is something many knitters take great pride in! The Nation’s Fastest Knitter will help us to not only raise awareness of knitting and engage lots more people in the activity, but will recognise also those fantastic skills that many knitters have.”
UK Hand Knitting will supply all yarn and needles required for the competition at the shows, although knitters are permitted to bring their own favourite set of lucky needles if they wish. A number of exciting prizes including yarn and other knitting equipment is up for grabs for runners up. The overall winner will take home an exclusive Nation’s Fastest Knitter trophy plus a ‘golden ticket’ giving free access to all ICHF Event’s shows for life!
